HM Prison Whatton is a Category C men's prison, located in the village of Whatton in Nottinghamshire, England. The prison is operated by Her Majesty's Prison Service. ==History==
Whatton is a category C prison which holds adult male sex offenders. It opened as a detention centre in the 1960s and since May 1990 it has held sex offenders who participate in the Sex Offenders Treatment Programme. A 2011 report, carried out by the IMB (Independent Monitoring Boards) branded Whatton as 'inhumane'in its housing of inmates. Prisoners were still being housed in three or four bed dormitories. The report also highlighted concerns about inadequate toilet facilities.〔http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-11512426〕 A further IMB report in 2013 revealed that many inmates were waiting up to two years for treatment, due to 'inadequate' funding.〔http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-24723605〕
